Why am I receiving a COBRA general notice?

I just received a COBRA general notice in the mail from my employer. Why did I receive this letter and what does in mean?

  • A COBRA general notice is sent out to any active employee who has group health benefits. This packet will inform you of your COBRA rights and guide you if a spouse and/or child loses health coverage for one of the following reasons: divorce/legal separation, loss of dependent status, or the employee is entitled to Medicare. If one of these events does occur, please contact your HR department to report the loss of coverage.
