Are surgical procedures that are not covered by insurance eligible for coverage by my flex account?
I want to get regenexx done on my spinal discs for my degenerative disc disease. There's a doctor here in CO that has been successful with this surgical procedure with over 500 patients. I guess he went through the channels to have it approved as a surgical procedure and it was but now the FDA is trying to claim that using your own stem cells are drugs and therefore the procedure is now currently under contention with the FDA. Since it is going through these approval issues insurance companies won't approve it right now. However, it is a procedure that is still available.
Please let me know as I would really like to be able to walk normally and it would take me a lot longer to get this procedure done without use of my flex account.
Thank you

I have had the Regenexx procedure done twice and both times were covered by my Flexible Health Care Spending account. Not only did the account cover the procedure but also the airfare to and from Denver. But it's always best to check with your provider as they may have different rules than mine.

Jim (Manager) May 17, 2010 22:43Mark is correct that the Regenexx procedure would typically be covered by your Flexible Spending Account (or HSA account) because it is typically for the treatment/cure of injury (which makes it eligible). Dr. Centeno's research is great and highly recommend him from my own personal experience!EditDeleteRemove
