The length of COBRA varies and is decided by the type of qualifying event. Below is a list of the types of COBRA events and the length of time a participant can remain on COBRA:

Reduction in hours - 18 months
Voluntary/Involuntary termination - 18 months
Retirement - 18 months
Death of Employee - 36 months
Divorce/Legal Separation - 36 months
Loss of dependent status - 36 months
Entitlement to Medicare - 36 months
USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployement Act or Military service) - 24 months
